DESCRIPTION
One route towards sustainability is to reduce the livestock component, making up the income lost from alternative productive activities based on fauna resources which will support the re-establishment of degraded ecosystems.
The aim of this project is to use simple ecological studies and, to a lesser extent, sociological studies to identify the areas most suitable for land use diversification, and to predict how the potential reversal of steppe degradation through diversification of use might affect the conservation status of terrestrial vertebrate communities. Research will make wide use of predictive distribution models combining remote techniques with statistical models.
